GOING LIVE!

So Tom and his Fox friends over at myspace destroyed all my paypal buttons...little bastards. Whatevs. GOING GAGA RECORDS has a new home. I'm gonna keep the myspace going for obvious reasons, like being a link, and still a good music player, but this is where all the ordering is gonna be.

I thought it was the right time to get a little more organized, try and put this website together. I even divulged an entire ten dollar bill and secured WWW.GOINGGAGARECORDS.COM!!!

In the next few months there will be a LOT of new records on the way. I think you're gonna be floored once you hear this stuff! Coming up right away are the WALNUT KIDS 45, the JOLIETTES 45, and the SONIC AVENUES LP!!!

So here you have it... www.goinggagarecords.com!!!
Have a look around, let me know what you think.
See ya soon!

GGR006 - SUPPOSITORIES 45

GGR006

SUPPOSITORIES – s/t 45

300 copies

Black vinyl

Hand made sleeves, hand printed and hand stenciled by Kenneth J. MacLaurin

Take a look at GGR003 for a little history on the band, because this record picks up from where the LP left off. After the LP came out, these guys started getting a LOT more attention around town. So much that, local guitar whiz, and uber-punkestar Ilona from the FELINES insisted that this was her favourite band in town, and she must join. In came Ilona on guitar, and the band reached a brand new high. With 2 guitars they filled out, kept the intense noise of the downstrokes going while the 1 and 2 note leads swirl around overhead. I know they have each their intentions, there’s a lot of love and anger involved, in the end is a four song 45, and each song is a stone cold killer. I could go on about every single one of them. It’s this blast of violence that fills me up with intensity. The recording is another Ian job, the bassist and singer of the band, the self-made whiz I talked about earlier. It’s a perfect treatment for the band. Everything sounds just right, and the guitar sound on here will blow your mind. The playing is perfect. Gawd, what a record! Ken spent about 3 hours on each sleeve, they look amazing. There’s a dark grey photocopied texture on a lighter gray card. Then he hand printed the track titles on top of that, and then spray bombed a gold stencil on top of that. The result is totally impressive. Easily a top10 all time Ottawa release.

GGR005 - OTTAWA GAGA VOL.1 LP

GGR005
OTTAWA GAGA – VOLUME I – COMPILATION LP
330 copies
Black vinyl
Cut and paste Xerox covers. Some on white jackets, some on garbage jackets.
Hand numbered
With a 16 page zine insert.

The crowning jewel of the Ottawa punk scene for 2009. A compilation featuring exclusive tracks from 15 of the wildest party animal bands around. This anachronism will forever catalogue what was going on in Ottawa in 2009, with a fairly representative roster of the people playing and attending the shows. The idea was to make a compilation so that each band could have a real release, I mean, I would have loved to do a 45 for each, but that’s just not feasible, and the compilation is such a great format. With that, we tweaked the idea some, and because all of the bands are from Ottawa, it was possible to record everybody in the same studio, with the same equipment, giving 15 bands, with 15 different sounds, something recognizable and common. Jordy and Ian S. set up a recording room at Luke’s studio, and each band was booked for a 2 hour slot. Over the course of a month, bands came in and laid their tracks down. The result is a totally impressive record with 15 bands, many of whom are already broken up and moved out of the city within 6 months of the release. I dunno, maybe the comp was what tore them up and sent ‘em running?? Probably! If I had any regrets, it was that the comp wasn’t inclusive…plans are underway for VOLUME II in 2010, and #II will pick up the leftovers. Packed inside each of the records is a 16 page zine. Every band made a page.
